Wild Semi-baseless Likely Incorrect Interpretation of Forlesen

Interpretation by Hammers:

I think the key to understanding the story comes from the "Explainer" and his multiple answers at the end to "Was my suffering worth it?" This leads to multiple interpretations of the story and different ways of reading it. The other key seems to be the paragraph on death and the dead in the red book that occurs at the beginning but first we have to break it down into the nine different interpretations.

Doctor: Not worth it.

This comes from the explanation that Forelesen may have a tumor pressing against his brain. He is living an ordinairy life that he is unable to understand because he is living in a semi-delirious state. The memory loss, the strange things that he see's, and his troubles with time are caused by hallucinations caused by the tumor.

Priest: Worth it.

The "beset by demons" interpretation. This leads to a biblical reading of the story, with emphasis on the parts regarding Abraham Beale/Adam Bean. Abraham describes how his father used to have a farm with an apple tree on it, and the story of the two chickens resembles that of Cain and Abel (one of the deaths is to come back as "A tree or beast"). Apparently, "the state" has bought the farm for the highway, possibly the very one that they are driving on as the they talk. If they are in Eden, it may explain why the police officer has abstract symbols and symbols of wildlife on the side of his car. It would explain why Forlesen wonders if people really are supposed to wear clothes and why the police officer is only wearing a shirt. The things that Forlesen sees holding up the highway could be hellish mechanisms that are used to create the highway to heaven (Forlesen never notices the descend and he sees what he thinks are other cars riding on clouds) and that the company he works for that seeks to "Create Creativity" are demons who have infiltrated heaven and are attempting to take the place of God, Abraham's dead father. This would also explain why Abraham notes that all of the other drivers are sleeping and why Forlesen's coffin has a great motor (On Death and the Dead #12, those who sleep). This interpretation could be a "What if Adam hadn't eaten from the tree of knowledge of good and evil?"
