Stories-Discuss-In Looking-Glass Castle

I'm uncomfortable with the usage of "I" in the analysis section here. We don't usually attribute our analyses (except for Borski), but I'd be fine with labelling that part of the analysis as DaveTallman's personal view. Alternatively, perhaps "I think 'In Looking-Glass Castle' is a strange love story etc." be rephrased to something less personal? For example, "One possible reading is that...." What do you think? -- DarthEd November 07, 2010, at 09:07 PM

  • My own feeling is that, as you say, analysis should generally be unattributed and neutrally phrased. The exception is if a given passage is felt by its contributor (or by others) to be particularly personal, in which case the contributor should be attributed. But I feel these are really pretty rare. So eg. Dave's theories about 7AN I think merit that separate status, because they represent a solid individual body of spadework and reach original conclusions. This IL-GC case isn't in the same category, for me, so I would tend to just rephrase it along the lines you suggest. -- Mo November 07, 2010, at 10:46 PM
