Wolfe's comments from the Introduction to Innocents Aboard

There were no comments on this story in the introduction.

Summary

A brother and sister from an orphanage have a dreamlike journey to a macabre carnival, and are changed by it.

Analysis

  • In the end, the children confront dark, incestous counterparts to themselves. They seem to triumph over them and leave them behind. It would seem to be a hopeful ending, although each taking a bite of the apple also suggests the Fall of Man in Genesis.

Unresolved Questions

Why is it significant that they exchanged bites?
Are Candi Apple and her brother their evil counterparts?
